A strong SEO agent needs a defined job, evidence requirements and authority limits. “Improve my SEO” is too broad. The prompts below narrow the work into outcomes you can inspect and approve.

1. Technical audit

Ask for a page-by-page evidence table covering status, title, description, H1, canonical, schema, internal links, images, sitemap inclusion and mobile risks. Require the agent to separate findings from recommendations.

2. Keyword-to-page map

Assign one primary intent to one primary page, identify cannibalization and propose new pages only when they can provide a distinct answer.

3. Content brief

Define reader intent, unique angle, outline, required evidence, internal links, CTA, claims requiring verification and topics that would duplicate existing content.

4. Internal-link audit

Request the source paragraph, destination and natural anchor language for every recommendation. This prevents mechanical sitewide exact-match anchors.

5. Backlink opportunity research

Require eligibility, cost, submission URL, relationship fit and owner action. Explicitly reject paid-link networks and tell the agent not to submit anything.

6. Personalized outreach draft

Provide one real target at a time. Ask why the fit is genuine, what value your resource contributes and which destination URL is most appropriate. Review before sending.

7. Monthly review

Compare periods carefully, identify measurement changes and seasonality, and separate likely movement from proven causation. Finish with only three evidence-backed priorities.

Use durable instructions too

Individual prompts work better when the repository also contains durable rules for safety, verification, deployment and reporting. Download the companion AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md.
